Ethical Dilemmas and how to make decisions:
Healthcare professionals constantly face complex ethical dilemmas that demand sound judgment and a systematic approach. From resource allocation and end-of-life care to patient autonomy and technological advances, the need for robust ethical frameworks has never been greater. This essential webinar provides practical, structured methods for analyzing and resolving challenging ethical issues, ensuring your decisions are legally sound, ethically justifiable, and focused on patient well-being.
Why should you attend :
Are you confident in your ability to navigate the gray areas of patient care? Ethical dilemmas are not theoretical—they are daily realities that can lead to moral distress, professional burnout, and legal jeopardy. This session moves beyond abstract principles to equip you with concrete, step-by-step frameworks (like the Four-Box Method and the Primacy of the Patient framework) that you can immediately apply in your practice. By mastering these decision-making tools, you will gain the clarity and confidence to resolve conflicts, foster better interprofessional collaboration, and ensure that your care consistently upholds the highest ethical standards.
Areas covered in the session:
· Articulate the four fundamental principles of biomedical ethics (autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, and justice) and apply them to patient case studies.
· Utilize a structured ethical decision-making framework (e.g., the Four-Box Method) to systematically analyze complex clinical scenarios and identify potential conflicts.
· Evaluate dilemmas related to patient autonomy and informed consent, particularly in cases involving diminished capacity or conflicting family wishes.
· Analyze the ethical implications of resource allocation and distribution of care, applying principles of justice in challenging situations.
· Differentiate between professional boundaries and ethical mandates concerning confidentiality and truth-telling (veracity) in patient interactions.
· Develop strategies for interprofessional communication and collaboration to resolve moral distress and ethical conflicts within the care team.
